Boom! Studios

An independent publisher founded in 2005, specializing in a wide variety of genres including horror, humor, children's, and science fiction.

Dark Horse Comics

Begun in 1986, Dark Horse Comics is the largest independent publisher, with a number of classic titles.
Titles: 300, Alien vs. Predator, The Guild, Sin City, Terminator

DC Comics

Founded in 1934, DC is one of the two largest comic book publishers, and along with Marvel, shares in 80% of the market. Its long history, variety of imprints, and monopoly on a number of popular characters make DC unavoidable for superhero readers and collectors. DC is a subsidiary of Warner Bros.

Devil’s Due Publishing

Previously an imprint of Image Comics, Devil's Due is now an independent publisher of a variety of genres with original creator-owned characters.

A Canadian publisher that specializes in underground and alternative comics.

Dynamite Entertainment

An American publisher with a variety of genres, particularly horror, superhero, and continuing media series.

Fantagraphics

One of the largest publishers of underground, alternative comics and comic strips, and the American counterpart to the Canadian Drawn & Quarterly. A number of their titles have become classic independent works.

First Second

A publisher specializing in fiction, biographies, personal memoirs, history, visual essays, and comics journalism. First Second, while American, publishes many European graphic novels.

IDW Publishing

Idea & Design Works is best known for its horror comics, and has been awarded the honor of "Publisher of the Year Under 5% Market Share" for three consecutive years.

Image

Founded in 1992, Image was established as a publisher that would allow artist/creators to retain the copyright to their original characters (not permitted by the major publishers, Marvel and DC), and now hosts several large series.
Titles: Astounding Wolf-Man, Chew, Invincible, Spawn, The Walking Dead

Marvel

Begun in 1939, Marvel divides the comics market with its competitor, DC, and is now owned by the Walt Disney Company. Marvel has seen great contemporary success in translating its properties into blockbuster motion pictures.

NBM Publishing

Nantier Beall Minoustchine Publishing specializes in non-superhero comics including European and mature-content graphic novels.

Oni Press

Founded in 1997, Oni Press carries a diverse and innovative line of comics described by the owners as "real mainstream". That is, mainstream within society at large, rather than among comics readers.

Slave Labor Graphics
